Hardware

Choose an SDR or a compatible CDMA2000 femtocell for radio coverage. Below are the supported radio options and a sample of the handsets 1xBTS has been tested with. Most CDMA2000 1x phones should work; EV-DO needs a handset, modem, or data card with HRPD support.

SDR radios

Ettus USRP B200 / B210

uhd-backend
InterfaceUSB 3.0
Range70 MHz – 6 GHz

The primary development target. Full sample-rate and timing discipline over UHD, including combined 1x + HRPD composite operation.

Ettus Research ↗

bladeRF Micro 2.0

bladerf-backend
InterfaceUSB 3.0
Range47 MHz – 6 GHz

Native backend with configurable stream buffers, including combined 1x + HRPD composite operation.

Nuand ↗

LimeSDR Mini v2

lime-backend
InterfaceUSB 3.0
Range10 MHz – 3.5 GHz

Native mode with RX sample-delay compensation for 1x operation.

Lime Microsystems ↗

Any SoapySDR device

soapy
InterfaceVaries
RangeVaries

Generic SoapySDR path for other radios. May work for 1x, but isn't regularly exercised and is not the primary EV-DO path.

Femtocells

Airvana Airave 2.5

An Ethernet-connected CDMA2000 femtocell with its own radio. The airave-25-2x profile supplies device-specific provisioning and voice handling.

Other femtocells need a compatible device profile, credentials, and provisioning settings. The generic profile is a starting point, not a promise that every CDMA2000 femtocell will work.

No SDR is required. You need control of the device's bootstrap DNS, its authentication credentials, and any required GPS antenna. Follow Femtocell Setup.

Tested handsets

  • Apple iPhone (CDMA)
  • Motorola V60s
  • Qualcomm QCP-860
  • Nokia Lumia 735
  • Samsung SCH-U340
  • BlackBerry 8830

A sample of what we've run; many more CDMA2000 1x handsets work. For EV-DO testing, use a hybrid handset or data card that supports HRPD Rev 0 or Rev A.
